Teachers' Workshop- How to prepare your students’ work for exhibition

• Instructor: Dr. Joni Hand
• In this hands-on workshop, you will learn to prepare student work for exhibition, curate an exhibition space, and install work.

Design Your Dream Room (Then go inside it with VR!)

• Instructors: Dr. Ubhaya Perera, Professor Morgan Schmid, Dr. Reem Mahmoud
• Designers will model their future dorm room in SketchUp. First, students will model the space, creating the walls and floor. Then, they will design the room by adding 3D models from the SketchUp 3D Warehouse and applying colors to surfaces such as walls, floors, and furniture. You will choose your own furniture, paint, and accessories! After that, you will use a virtual reality headset to visualize the space and walk around your room as if it were a real-world experience. This workshop will be highly engaging, helping students feel like they are creating their own dorm room in preparation for starting college. Finally, students will create a scale model of their choice to take home using the 3D printer!

Media Entrepreneurship – or – How to Build a Media Business

• Instructors: Professor Mike Simmons, Professor Siyan Li
• In this workshop, students will develop a concept for a media product (YouTube channel, podcast, etc.), conduct audience research, and then create a marketing plan and creative strategy to build an audience.

Everything and Anything: Making Sculptural Work with What We Have: Mixed Media Sculpture Workshop

• Instructors: Professor Chris Wubbena, Professor Bradley Phillips
• Description: Explore sculptural mixed-media artwork by creating your own small-scale, personal compositions using an eclectic assortment of materials, such as wood, plaster, plastic, and found objects, and by adding a variety of surface textures, coloration, and photographic components. Through an additive process, you will experiment with sculpting imaginative three-dimensional forms that stack, layer, and shift in new and expressive ways.

Mixed Media Workshop

• Instructor: Professor Justin Miller
• Explore techniques in combining spray painting, stenciling, collage, oil pastel, and drawing.

What the Heck Is That? Creating Creatures That Never Were

• Instructor: Professor Joshua Newth
• Student artists become natural historians, creature designers, and illustrators for the day. Using their drawing skills and references such as real animals, historical illustrations, photographs of their pet(s), and photographs of everyday or unusual animals, artists will combine anatomical features, textures, and behaviors into something slightly believable, unbelievable, or even absurd to create a new species. Artists will illustrate their new species, give them a name, and a backstory.

ON AIR: From Camera to Control Room

• Instructors: Professor Fred Jones, Professor Anthony Scherer, Broadcast Engineer Tom White
• Immerse yourself in the thrilling world of television production! In this interactive workshop, you will collaborate with TV and Film faculty to learn what it takes to create a show, from the first cue to the final take.
• Students will engage in both on-camera and behind-the-scenes roles, such as talent, camera operator, director, producer, and crew members for audio, lighting, and production. In a hands-on studio setting, they will collaborate as a team to plan, produce, and record their own show, gaining insight into how all the elements work together behind the scenes.

Buttons and Magnets and Keychains, Oh My!

• Instructors: Professor Lanie Gabbard, Professor Jeremy Griffin 
• Learn the secrets of the pencil-to-pixel-to-print process as you create your own buttons, magnets, and/or keychains. Tap into your creativity by using a variety of media to design exciting pieces. Be prepared to experiment with markers, pencils, and digital techniques.
